June 19-28, 2025
Two one-act plays presented by new directors
New Director’s Showcase
Performances: Jun 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 2025
at the Riverside Playhouse
“The Actor’s Nightmare” by Christopher Durang. (Approx. 25 minutes)
An accountant, having casually wandered onstage, is informed he must immediately replace an injured actor, yet none of the cast seems sure of what play is being performed. Private Lives? Hamlet? A Man for All Seasons? As he fumbles through one missed cue after another the actors shift from one play to the next, by which time the accountant has lost all sense of contact with his fellow performers.
“The Zoo Story” by Edward Albee. (Approx. 60 minutes)
A man sits reading on his favorite Central Park bench. There enters a second man. He is a young, unkempt and undisciplined vagrant where the first is neat, ordered, well-to-do and conventional. The vagrant is a soul in torture and rebellion. He longs to communicate so fiercely that he frightens and repels his listener, slowly bringing his victim down to his own level.
