The Short Shakespeareans head into their 45th season as rehearsals begin for their upcoming production of The Taming of the Shrew. For the next three weeks, the cast of 55 talented young performers will juggle rehearsals, memorizing and understanding lines, and, most importantly, being a kid. The children’s theatre company was founded by director Sherry Schreck and has a summer project helmed by Director Kelly Atwood since 2013. The Taming of the Shrew revolves around a competition between Hortensio (Finn Flavin), Gremio (Gabe Scheduler) and Lucentio (Eli Lemmon) to win Bianca's (Maya Scanlon) hand in marriage. But at its center is the attempt of one man, Petruchio (Kade Devereaux), to tame the wild Katherine (Abbey Kimmel), and turn her into an obedient and doting wife.
